Shipping Your Possessions to Indonesia

The following documents are required by Indonesian Customs to clear shipments into Indonesia:

For Foreigners:

* Original passport with 12 month visa validity for both husband and wife.
* If shipper is not married, a statement to this effect must be obtained from the Embassy concerned in Jakarta.
* Original KITAS card for both husband and wife (formerly called KIM/S), which is the residence permit, with a 12 month validity.
* Original work permit with 12 month validity
* Complete inventory listing
* Original Bill of Lading or Airway Bill.

For Indonesians:

* Passport
* Letter from Indonesian Embassy or Consulate at point of origin stating original arrival date abroad, the date of return to Indonesia, the reason for staying overseas, and that the shipper is bringing back a shipment of household goods to Indonesia.
* Packing list, legalized by the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the country from which the shipment originates, prior to the departure.
* Original Bill of Lading or Airway Bill

For Diplomatic removals:

* Proof of diplomatic status, Dinas passport
* Form PP-8, which the Embassy in Jakarta applies for from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Departemen Luar Negeri or DEPLU). It takes about 2 weeks to obtain the form.
* For semi-diplomatic personnel (UN, UNICEF, WHO) Form PP-19, approved by the Indonesian State-Secretary (Sekertariat Negara).
* Original Bill of Lading of Airway Bill
* Packing list

For pets - accompanied or unaccompanied travelling pets:

* Health certificate (from country of origin) issued within 5 days of arrival in Indonesia
* Rabies vaccination certificate issued at least 30 days before arrival in Indonesia (but not older than 1 year)
* Import permit (to apply this permit takes about 3-4 working days)
* Copy of owner’s passport
* Copy of Vaccination Record

To verify the above information, please contact the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your country of origin.
Items which will cause problems in clearing your shipment through customs:

* Anything new or in an original factory carton and which appears new is dutiable.
* Motor vehicles are prohibited (or highly taxed) except for the holders of Diplomatic and Semi-Diplomatic visas (Dinas)
* Laser discs, CDs, videos may be questioned, inspected or held for viewing
* Any major electrical item which are duplicates (e.g., 2 TV sets).
* Any item which is motorized (motorcycle, jet-ski, etc.).
* Anything which is not customarily found in a home.
* Alcohol in access of allowable amounts and pornography will be confiscated.
* Firearms and drugs are strictly prohibited, punishment is severe.

Duty Free and Dutiable Goods

Goods that are duty free for entry into the country are allowed only under the following conditions:

* Only 2 consignments are permitted viz 1 by sea, 1 by air.
* Arrival of the shipment/s in Indonesia must be within 3 months of the date of issuance on the residence permit (KITAS card).
* All items must have been used by the person importing them for a period of 12 months prior to entry into Indonesia.
* With the exception of air conditioners, a shipment can only include one each of major appliances and home entertainment electronics.

Dutiable goods:

* New furniture and household goods are subject to customs duty.
* Pets are subject to import duty.
* Foodstuffs, alcoholic beverages (brought with you), new articles and any items in commercial quantities are subject to import duty.
